“We have requested that they be evicted as soon as possible.

“In the mean time please do not accept any door step offers to clear gardens or lay drives as the debris will be left in the the park.”

The popular park, which was founded in 1899, has endured frequent incursions by travellers over the years.

A large group of around 15 caravans set up at the site on Sunday, May 18.

The council had said previously: “Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it.

“The council has useable transit sites and plots for use by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community – which is in line with Government policy – and details of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment carried out and updated in 2019 can be found on our website.”
