Prince Harry‘s return to the U.K. could mark a serious turn in his relationship with King Charles III, but Prince William is reportedly not interested.
The Duke of Sussex is making his annual trip back home for the WellChild Awards on Sept. 8, which is the perfect time to orchestrate a reconciliation after an unnecessarily long feud. To refresh your memory, there have been royal peace talks between Harry and his father’s communications teams, so their move isn’t unexpected. Still, Prince William is apparently not interested in mending fences with his younger brother.

“It’s clear there is now a determination on both sides to make this happen. Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry,” a source told the Mirror.

According to the insider, it’s been “20 months” since they’ve seen each other after Harry made an emergency trip to see his dad when his cancer diagnosis was revealed last year.
“…With the King continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step,” they added. “This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings – it’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son. The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue.”
The Sussex source made it clear that the Prince of Wales has “rejected” any opportunity to heal the royal family rift. Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I, told Fox News Digital in mid-August that William’s sticking point is Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
“The flea in the ointment really is very much Meghan,” Seward alleged. “She’s disliked intensely by a large number of the monarchists of this country. They see her as being very… damaging to the royal family.” William’s resistance to even meeting with his brother caused a palace insider to describe the Prince of Wales as “petty and ridiculous” to the Daily Beast in December 2024.
Even royal expert Duncan Larcombe questioned William’s leadership to the same publication in June 2022, “If William wants to be a future king, a great leader giving inspiring addresses about the environment to two billion people, then the public are within their rights to expect him to be able to sort out a frankly pretty minor dispute with his brother,” he said.
If a reconciliation between Harry and Charles is on the horizon, it’s not going to be a good look for William. He might want to reconsider his position.
