Chelsea are reportedly closing in on the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Facundo Buonanotte, beating Leeds United to his signature.
Chelsea are reportedly set to beat Leeds United to the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Facundo Buonanotte.
The 20-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign on a temporary deal at Leicester City, who suffered an immediate return to the Championship.
Despite the Foxes’ relegation, Buonanotte impressed at the King Power Stadium, scoring five goals and providing two assists across 31 Premier League appearances.
Returning to the South Coast in the summer, it is clear that the Argentine is not part of Fabian Hurzeler‘s plans at Brighton once again.
Since signing from Rosario Central in January 2023, Buonanotte has featured on 50 occasions for the Seagulls, netting five goals.
Chelsea set to beat Leeds to Buonanotte signing?
According to Sky Sports News, Buonanotte could be spending his second straight season away from the Amex on a temporary deal.
The report claims that Club World Cup winners Chelsea are interested in bringing the youngster to Stamford Bridge before the end of the window.
It is understood that the Blues are the current frontrunners in the race for Buonanotte, who is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs.
One of those is said to be Leeds, with the Yorkshire Whites looking to bolster their ranks as they aim to avoid relegation this term.
Borussia Dortmund are also named as a potential suitor, however it is believed that Brighton want to loan the attacker to another English club.
Familiar faces await Buonanotte
With Chelsea appearing set to win the race for Buonanotte, the Argentine could be the latest of a long list of players to make the switch from Brighton to Stamford Bridge.
You have to say it would be quite the move for the 20-year-old, who was fighting relegation with Leicester just a few months’ ago.
Buonanotte would have the potential to showcase himself on the domestic and European stage, with Chelsea reaching the Champions League.
