Arsenal’s title ambitions will be put to the test on Sunday afternoon, with the North London side facing reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield.

The Gunners have been close to winning silverware in recent years, but fallen at the last hurdle – much to the frustration of Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal fans.

Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres this summer as a statement of intent, with the London club busy in the transfer market.

However, with the Premier League clash against Liverpool set to be a blockbuster, a player who was touted to leave the Emirates Stadium could be set to start.

Arsenal were expected to sell Leandro Trossard over the summer, with TBR Football reporting that Inter Milan were interested in bringing the skilful attacker to Italy.

However, the Belgium international ended up making a u-turn and earlier this month signed a new contract with Arsenal to end speculation about his future.

Arteta will have selection decisions to make against Liverpool, especially as key man Bukayo Saka will miss the game due to injury.

This will potentially open the door for Trossard, who replaced the England international in the 5-0 win over Leeds last weekend.

Options in wide areas for Arteta

With Martin Odegaard also nursing an injury and facing a race against time to be fit to face Liverpool, new Arsenal signing Eberechi Eze could well feature against Liverpool.

However, with Saka not available, Arteta will need to decide over whether it is an experienced player in Trossard, a new man in Noni Madueke or a rising star in Ethan Nwaneri that plays.

Trossard has proven himself – both for Brighton and Arsenal – as a player who can consistently deliver in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old has scored 20 Premier League goals for Arsenal over the last two seasons and has had an important role to play for the Gunners in big games.

Despite others gaining the limelight, Trossard could yet have a critical role to play for Arsenal against Liverpool and in their quest for silverware in 2025-26.
