Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Emi Martínez from Aston Villa.

The Argentina number one is open to a move to Old Trafford and may not feature for Villa against Crystal Palace this evening amid speculation over his future.

United have been in talks with Villa over a potential deal, with Jadon Sancho heading the other way also being a possibility.

Martínez has been open to leaving Villa for several months and appeared visibly emotional after the club’s final home game of last season, against Tottenham in May.

At the time, he believed it was his final appearance at Villa Park – and that may still prove to be the case, as he was suspended for the opening weekend clash against Newcastle United at B6.

United are expected to make their move for Martínez after struggling to reach an agreement with Royal Antwerp over the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The highly rated Belgian is also considered a target for Villa should Martínez depart, while FC Porto’s Diogo Costa is under consideration too.
