Austal USA announces launch of first Landing Craft Utility vessel

  • 31 August 2025

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Austal USA posted on its Facebook page that Friday, August 22, it launched its first Landing Craft Utility vessel.

Here is part of the post:

Last Friday, Austal USA successfully launched LCU 1710 into the Mobile River.

This is the first of 12 Landing Craft Utility vessels being built by Austal USA for the United States Navy.

Designed to support a wide range of military operations, LCU 1710 delivers vehicles, personnel, and cargo from sea-to-shore and back. Each craft boasts an impressive heavy-lift capacity, equivalent to several C-17 aircraft.

It is an important connector that plays a crucial role in supporting expeditionary operations for the Navy and Marine Corps.

We’re thrilled to see this vessel begin its journey and honored to continue supporting the Navy’s critical operations.
