Prince Harry and Prince William have been feuding for a while now, five years and counting, and there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight. But when it comes to Meghan Markle and her sister-in-law Princess Kate, the Duchess of Sussex did in fact issue a plea to her fans, to stop pitting the two women against each other.
In the now-famous sitdown interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said: “If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me.”
It was in reference to a news story about Meghan making Kate cry, when in turn, Meghan alleges it was Kate who made her cry.

During her conversation with Oprah, Meghan set the record straight on a widely circulated story that she had made Kate cry before the her 2018 wedding, instead revealing that the reverse had occurred, with Kate reducing her to tears.
Nevertheless, the Duchess also acknowledged that Kate had offered an apology, describing her as a “good person” while also highlighting that she had observed a “polarity” where royal supporters pit the two women against one another.
Meghan seems to be way past those early days and is now living in the US with Harry and their two children, where the Sussex family is flourishing
Yet, tensions between the Sussex faction and the remaining royals have persisted. Soon after Harry’s memoir hit shelves in 2023, the couple were “kicked out” of their UK residence at Frogmore Cottage, near to King Charles’s Windsor Castle.
Meghan has seldom made trips back to the UK following the couple’s departure from royal duties, with exceptions being the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, whom she has praised in glowing terms, and accompanying her spouse to the late Queen’s funeral.
In 2022, Meghan spoke with The Cut to publicize her upcoming podcast series, Archetypes, which was launching at that time, and captured her feelings about the other royals and her time living in the UK in just two words: “Still healing.”
The remark followed her observation that no legal restrictions prevented her from sharing her viewpoint on her time within the monarchy.
She said: “It’s interesting, I’ve never had to sign anything that restricts me from talking..” She added: “I can talk about my whole experience and make a choice not to.”
