Sheffield United are in discussions with Championship rivals Ipswich Town over a loan deal for Chiedozie Ogbene before the 7pm deadline on Monday.
The 24-cap Republic of Ireland international only joined the Tractor Boys last year from Luton Town when they were a Premier League club, but the winger’s time in the top flight was cut short due to a serious knee injury, which restricted him to just five appearances.
Ogbene is now back to full fitness, and he did feature in Ipswich’s first few games, but he has fallen down the pecking order at Portman Road after the signings of Kasey McAteer and Sindre Walle Egeli in the latter stages of the summer window.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has already admitted that Ogbene could leave before Monday evening’s transfer deadline, and BBC Sheffield journalist Andy Giddings has revealed that the Blades are keen on the 28-year-old.
He has reported that the two clubs are in talks over a potential loan move for Ogbene to head back to South Yorkshire, having spent time in the area in the past with Rotherham United, as Ruben Selles looks to add more pace and creativity to his side after a torrid start to 2025-26.
The Spaniard has had as bad a start as possible in charge of the Blades, with the 1-0 loss at Middlesbrough on Saturday meaning the side are yet to pick up a point from their first four games in the Championship.
United have already added winger Louie Barry to their ranks this summer, but they are actively looking to add a new player in that area before the transfer window shuts until January.
Chiedozie Ogbene would provide Sheffield United with a much-needed attacking spark
As well as the Blades being the only team without a point, they are the lowest scorers in the Championship, having found the net just once in their four fixtures.
So, it’s no surprise that they are looking to address that in the final 24 hours of the window, and Ogbene would go some way to changing things at Bramall Lane.

Whilst you have to take into account his injury last season, if he can get back to his previous levels, the former Luton man will be a huge threat due to his pace and power.
Part of the problem for the Blades has been that they look predictable going forward, so Ogbene would be able to add something different with his ability to carry the ball and to beat his opponent.
That would make this a low-risk, sensible signing for Sheffield United if they can get it over the line, although the fans will no doubt feel that further additions are needed if they are to get back on track and push for promotion, which had been the aim before a ball was kicked this season.
