It’s deadline day and Manchester United are expecting a busy final day in the transfer window. Ruben Amorim’s men got the majority of their business done earlier in the summer but there are still alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford.
After three games, United have won one, drew one and lost one in the Premier League. Last week, they crashed out of the EFL Cup at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are showing glimpses of what they can do but Benjamin Sesko has struggled to make an impact. Now, with less than 24 hours of the window remaining, United are searching for a final addition.
With that in mind, The Manchester Evening News brings you the latest transfer news on the final day of the window…
Late Stiller move
A new midfielder could still be added to Amorim’s squad with Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller being linked with a move to the Premier League. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Stuttgart chiefs are currently discussing whether or not to sell the player.
Mason Mount’s injury against Burnley and uncertainty over Kobbie Mainoo’s future means a move for Stiller could be on the cards.
MEN Sport says: “After the first four games of the season, some would argue that a new midfielder is the priority for United over a goalkeeper. Casemiro has struggled and Bruno Fernandes is just better further forward.
“Stiller is a player who has been linked previously but leaving it until the last few days may be too late. It seems as though United are gunning for a new goalkeeper meaning signing the midfielder is unlikely.
“However, if they can get it over the line, they will be strengthening a key area with a transfer no-one saw coming.”
Sancho in Villa talks
Jadon Sancho has been included in talks between United and Aston Villa for Martinez. According to The Athletic, the possibility of including the winger in a deal that would see him move to Villa Park has been mentioned.
Martinez missed Villa’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday night amid interest from United. The report states that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, as are discussions with Antwerp for Lammens.
Sancho is expected to depart United today with a number of clubs keen.
MEN Sport says: “Much has been made of United’s need to sign a goalkeeper and midfielder before the window closes. But perhaps one of their most important pieces of business today is shifting players who do not have a future at the club.
“Sancho falls into that bracket alongside Antony and Tyrell Malacia. The worrying thing is that none of them are on the brink of joining new clubs. If United can sign Martinez and sell Sancho in the same deal, they will be delighted.”
