Deontay Wilder appears to have been offered a route to another shot at a world heavyweight title as he prepares to make his next ring appearance.
The former long-reigning WBC heavyweight champion made his long-awaited comeback to the sport back in June when he stopped fellow countryman Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in the seventh round of their non-title bout at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Wilder had been on a disappointing run of form up until his showdown with Herndon several months ago, suffering four defeats in his last five outings against the likes of Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker and Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang.
With reports suggesting that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ could have one more outing before the end of the year, the 39-year-old from Alabama appears to have been offered an opportunity at pushing towards a potential world title shot in the near future.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller, who is currently ranked at number three with the WBA, sent a sensational call-out to fellow countryman Wilder.
“I’ve always had love for Deontay, but like I said, I still want to punch you in the face because you’re a champion. So based on that, that’s the reason why we got beef, because I looked at you as somebody looked up to in the division, but you, in my brain, you kind of like fell off of that championship pedestal because you following a bird.”
Victory for Wilder in a potential showdown with Miller could see the 39-year-old leap-frog his rival and move even closer to a world title shot at some stage in the near future, although it could be a long road back to the pinnacle of the division for ‘The Bronze Bomber’.
