Manchester United are keen to add a goalkeeper to their ranks on transfer deadline day but an exit from that department is inevitable

Manchester United are making the arrival of a goalkeeper on deadline day one of their top priorities as they look to bolster the position before the window slams shut.

At the beginning of the window, the goalkeeper position was not on the wishlist for the club. Andre Onana was even given reassurances that he would not be replaced.

However, after suffering an injury in pre-season, Onana has failed to regain his spot in the Premier League starting line-up. Altay Bayindir has been preferred in the opening three top flight fixtures with the Cameroonian struggling in his only start at League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Bayindir has not been setting the world alight in place of Onana and was at fault for the goal against Arsenal on the opening day. Therefore, it appears that United are moving to bolster their goalkeeper department.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez appears to be the top target and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is also thought to be on the radar too. But if one or both of the goalkeepers were to sign on deadline day, inevitably exits would need to take place.

However, with the deadline fast approaching, United are unlikely to be rushing to sell today. While Onana and Bayindir could both leave, they do not necessarily have to exit today.

That is because the transfer windows in Saudi Arabia and Turkey are both open beyond today. Those markets shut on September 10 and 11 respectively which gives United time.

Bayindir returning to his home country could be an easier deal to accomplish than selling Onana. He is unlikely to leave for Fenerbahce though unless their move for Ederson falls through on deadline day.

Should both Martinez and Lammens sign today, United will need to offload goalkeepers. But, with the back-up of the Saudi and Turkey options available, the Reds have no reason to panic.
