New estimated inflation figures from the Central Statistics Office show that food prices rose by 5% in August compared to the same time last year.
The figures also show that food prices were up by 0.4% in August from July.
The CSO estimated that consumer prices – as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices shows – rose 1.8% on an annual basis in August from 1.6% a month earlier – the highest rate since April.
The Central Statistics Office said that core HICP, which excludes energy and unprocessed food, increased to 1.9%, from 1.7% in July.
The figures also show that energy prices are estimated to have fallen by 0.3% in the month and decreased by 0.1% over the 12 months to August.
The corresponding flash estimate for the euro zone will be published tomorrow.
The CSO said the flash estimates are subject to revision when the final HICP results are published next month.
