A man has appeared in court charged with murder over the death of a woman at an Edinburgh home. Momodou Bobb is alleged to have killed Ndata Bobb, 43, from Gambia at an address at Restalrig Avenue last week.

Emergency services raced to the property around 1am on Thursday, August 28. Upon their attendance Ndata was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, where she sadly died a short time later. A 55-year-old man was taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment. He was later released.

Bobb, also from Gambia, was in the dock today at the Edinburgh court house where he faced a charge of murder. The 55-year-old made no plea and was remanded in custody. He will be due back in court within the next eight days.

Tributes have flooded in for Ndata following her tragic passing.

Fatoumatta Trawally wrote: “So sad we meet at her mom’s funeral Just last month may yalla Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannahtul firduss.”

Beulah MJ Obiageli Ogoh said: “No! This is shocking! You’ve only recently lost your mum Ndata, sadly you’ve joined her so soon. Rest well sis. May God grant you eternal rest and watch over your children.”

Lyndsay Currie continued: “Rest in Peace beautiful lady and prayers with your family during this tough time.”

Awa Bah Yaye Baye added: “My former co-worker, my Sister, my niece, my friend, you DO NOT deserve this at all. A very beautiful lady inside and out. She was very loving, jovial and very peaceful. Allah knows best. May Allah forgive your shortcomings and grant you Jannah. May Allah protect the children you have left behind. You will be surely missed.”

Restalrig Avenue was closed down as police launched a probe into Ndata’s death. Images from the scene showed the area cordoned off as officers stood guard behind police tape.

Police chief’s described the incident as “shocking” as they urged concerned members of the public to contact police.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Ndata at this extremely difficult time. Our investigation remains ongoing, however we are not looking for anyone else in connection with Ndata’s death. This is a shocking incident and I would urge anyone with any concerns, or information, to contact police.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a woman in Edinburgh. Around 1am on Thursday, 28 August, 2025, we were called to a report of a disturbance at a property on Restalrig Avenue in the city.

“Emergency services attended and a 43-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, where she died a short time later. Her next of kin are aware and are being supported by specialist officers. She can now be named as Ndata Bobb. The man was taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment.”
