Residents of a village south of York have been told to boil their water this morning (Monday).

Yorkshire Water has urged villagers in Wheldrake to do this before drinking any water.

They have tankered supplies to the village while work is ongoing.

A message on its website says: “Areas affected: Wheldrake, York, YO19.

“Routine tests have shown that the water quality in your area doesn’t meet our usual high standards – please continue following boil water advice until further notice.

“Boiling your water before consumption is sufficient protection.”

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “Routine sampling of water supply in the YO19 6 area identified the need to issue a boil order notice to just over 250 properties in the area on the evening of Saturday 30 August.

“We are sorry to everyone impacted and grateful for their patience as we work to resolve the issue.

“Our water quality team are working to identify the cause of the problem and rectify it as soon as possible so we can lift the boil order. We have been tankering water into the area to help remedy the matter quicker.

“We’d like to remind customers that boiling water provides sufficient protection; however, we appreciate that can be inconvenient and have delivered bottled water to customers on our priority services register.

“We are working hard to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and would like to thank everyone affected for their patience.”
