An iconic brand its opening its first store at the Trafford Centre, bosses have confirmed.
Following the closure of Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe last month, it’s now been revealed that a Haribo shop will open in its place.
The 13th UK retail store for the brand, it will offer familiar favourites, international varieties, the chance to ‘Pick Your Mix’, as well as ‘gifts and merchandise for everyone to enjoy’.
We reported last week how Trafford Centre ‘institution’ Mr Simms had closed its doors for good at the giant shopping mall.

Known for its collection of nostalgic sweeties, as well as an array of American candy, it has been a fixture at the Trafford Centre since first opening in May 2014.

But now Haribo is taking over the prime spot on Upper Peel Avenue, bringing a Pick Your Mix station, featuring over 40 varieties of Haribo and Maoam treats to choose from.
Customers will be able to pick from a selection of UK treats, from favourites like Starmix and Tangfastics, to exciting new products such as Nostalgix and Alienauts.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy international varieties, whether that’s Favoritos and Watermelon from Spain, Dragibus and Tagada from France, or liquorice Schnecken from Germany.
The store will also feature exclusive Haribo merchandise, such as plushies, stationery, candles and more.
Celebrating the announcement, Rebecca Fox, head of retail at Haribo UK, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening a Haribo UK store in Manchester’s Trafford Centre. Our stores are a way to share even more moments of childlike happiness with Haribo fans and we can’t wait for Manchester’s Haribo-lovers and visitors to join in the fun.”
Simon Layton, centre director at Trafford Centre, added: “We’re excited to welcome Haribo to Trafford Centre, with a store that promises to deliver a super-sweet experience that cannot be matched online, delighting visitors of all ages.
“We’re confident that our visitors will love this new brand-new store, which will prove another fantastic addition to the centre.”

The opening comes amid a period of big changes at the shopping centre, with some huge brands opening stores, some moving to larger flagship stores, while others are continuing to be announced in the run-up to Christmas.
Next door to the former Mr Simms shop is a newly-opened Accessorize shop, which has moved from its previous site further along Regent Crescent.

Meanwhile, a few shops along there’s another new name for the centre, with the arrival of luxury chocolate shop Laderach at the Main Dome, opposite Selfridges.
Hoardings for the new brand are now up, with an opening date expected to be announced soon.
The Swiss chocolate company is famed for its chocolate box and gift collections, as well as its FrischSchoggi chocolate slabs filled with an array of treats like whisky, pecan, and pistachio.
Further news is also expected soon on the two sites left vacant by the former Zara and Pull & Bear stores, after both shops opened huge new flagships at the former M&S site on Peel Avenue earlier this month, alongside a new Berhska.
Other shops still to open before Christmas include viral K beauty brand PURESEOUL and fashion brand Urban Outfitters.
