Iconic Bristol nightclub venue Lizard Lounge is set to reopen under new management, just in time for Fresher’s Week. Ben Townley, Marketing, promotions and events manager for Triangle Bars Group – which also run the likes of Daisy’s on the Triangle in Clifton – said the bar and venue group were hoping to revive some of the nightlife in the area that has recently been lost.

Set to open on Sunday, September 14, and described as a place perfect for music fans of Bristol, the team has promised a brand new dance music venue that will offer a new soundsystem and LED screens. It will also have a full rebrand and refurbishment as well as a new name – SixtySix.

Dazed Music and Lost Track of Time are also behind the new venue in Queens Road, teaming up to bring ‘brand new brands into the venue’. It promises ‘non-stop disco, house and garage music’. An Instagram page has been set up with just one cryptic post reading: ‘Nothing Shown. Everything coming.’

The news comes just months after iconic Bristol bar and nightclub Lizard Lounge, that had been in the city for almost 30 years, announced its shock closure. Sharing a post to its Instagram page on July 3, the team wrote: “The end of an era. 1997-2025.”

The post included an image of the venue’s branding, balloons and a nightclub scene, with the words: “Thank you for the memories Bristol, they will live forever.” No further information around the reason behind the closure has yet been given.

Fans were quick to share their heartbreak at the news at the time. One commenter said: “Bristol nightlife officially finished”, while a second commented: “Ruined my week” and a third added: “I’m crying”.

Another wrote: “I don’t believe it”, with a fifth saying: “This is the worst day of my life”.

Many described it as a “huge loss” for the nightlife scene in the city, while others said they had many a memory from their time spent at the venue over the years.

Dubbed ‘Bristol’s most iconic nightclub’, according to its official website, Lizard Lounge was known and loved for its club nights, drinks deals, and live DJs. It’s long been a popular venue for students in the city, and even boasted sports nights.
