In Spain the Vuelta a Espana resumed following the opening rest day, with Egan Bernal limiting his losses well on stage 10.
A rapid stage concluded with a climb of the first-category El Ferial climb. As the GC attacks fired in the final kilometres, Bernal settled into his own rhythm. Michal Kwiatkowski had forged his way up the road as part of the day’s large breakaway, and would play a key role for his teammate after dropping back.
Bernal retains 11th place overall and now sits 2:55 back on new leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike).
Reaction
– Egan Bernal
“It hasn’t been my best day. The stage has been super fast, as it took nearly two hours and a half for the breakaway to go, and that took its toll. On the final climb, I just tried to set my own pace and manage my effort.
“Many times in life, one just isn’t in his best shape. On those occasions, you just need to make the best out of your body, your mind and your team – and just achieving that is very rewarding indeed.”
