Vigil held on Arthur’s Seat for Fawziyah Javed

A vigil was held earlier on Tuesday for Fawziyah Javed who died on 2 September 2021.

Ms Javed who was pregnant at the time, was murdered by her husband. She was pushed from Arthur’s Seat, and although severely injured she was able to tell passers by what had happened before she died.

The memorial bench was placed on Arthur’s Seat by campaigning organisation Karma Nirvana which works to bring an end to forced marriages, violence and murders such as these.

On their website today the charity published a Memory Box video, saying that Fawziyah’s story will drive lasting change.

In April 2023 Kashif Anwar was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years.
