A woman and her boyfriend were found in possession of more than £15,000 worth of class A drugs after police raided their home. They had more than 50g of cocaine and almost 40 ecstasy tablets.

Grace Mort, 25, was arrested after officers executed a search warrant at a property in Barry and found the defendant and her boyfriend Jacob Kennedy, 20, in an annex in the garden. The property was searched and a number of packages and mobile phones were seized.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on August 28 heard a grip seal bag was found to contain cocaine with a purity of 78%. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter.

The drugs weighed 50.5g in total and were valued between £4,320 and £7,200.

Also found were 38 ecstasy tablets, worth between £5,300 and £8,700.

Messages on Mort and Kennedy’s phone revealed they had been texting about their supply of cocaine, between April 5, 2023, and August 13, 2023.

On one occasion, Kennedy messaged Mort and asked her to “bring two 0.5g deals”.

He also messaged her complaining, saying: “I’m just someone who gives you sniff whenever you want it.”

Kennedy also said: “You can sniff my work but not answer your phone.”

Police also discovered a tick list which included customer names and money they owed.

Both defendants were interviewed and responded “no comment” to all questions asked.

Mort and Kennedy, both of Nant Talwg, Barry, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and MDMA, and being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Prosecutor Abdallah Barakat said both defendants sought to gain “significant financial advantage”.

According to the prosecution’s case, Kennedy directed Mort to weigh drugs and would bring him cocaine.

Kennedy was of previous good character while Mort has previous convictions for driving offences.

On Tuesday, Judge Paul Hobson sentenced Mort to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.

The defendant was ordered to carry out a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Kennedy will be sentenced at a later date.
