Manchester United’s new forward Matheus Cunha has provided a positive update for supporters amid concerns about his fitness following the victory over Burnley.

Cunha, who has yet to score for the Reds despite positive performances, was forced off at Old Trafford on Saturday after appearing to pick up a hamstring injury. United fans were given reason for optimism at full-time when footage emerged online of the Brazilian walking freely outside Old Trafford.

But this week, it was confirmed that Cunha had withdrawn from Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad due to the injury which led to further concerns. Speaking in his post-match media duties, Ruben Amorim admitted that he was worried about both Cunha and Mason Mount after they both picked up issues against Scott Parker’s side.

“It was hard to lose a player like Cunha and Mason Mount – Mount played like 30 minutes with an injury,” he said. “I don’t know [if they are long-term injuries], I don’t know but I’m concerned about that.

“They are so important for us, so we’ll see.” Amorim’s mood may have been brightened by Cunha’s social media activity on Tuesday.

Taking to Instagram, Cunha sent a message to United and provided a brief update on his injury status. “What an incredible environment, it’s great to be here,” he wrote.

“I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”

His tone suggests that United will not be without Cunha for long and that shall certainly be the hope. After the international break, the Reds return to action in a huge clash against local rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Should Cunha not be fit for the fixture, it could see Benjamin Sesko or Kobbie Mainoo replace him in the starting XI.
