The jail enforcer for cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson was battered behind bars
It comes amid a gangland turf war that has seen firebombings, shootings and knife assaults across the central belt.
Associates of Glasgow’s Daniel crime family have been targeted along with allies of jailed Edinburgh mobster Richardson, 38.
An insider said: “Richardson’s associates are getting attacked one by one.
“Even violent lunatics like Cornelius aren’t safe — not even behind bars.”
The lags who attacked Cornelius are understood to have assaulted another Daniel clan crony last year.
Lifer James McDonald, 52, who killed underworld rival Michael Lyons, 21, in Lambhill, Glasgow, in 2006, was also set upon.
Cornelius was first caged aged 11 for stabbing a schoolgirl in 2000.
Richardson is said to have approved of Cornelius slashing hitman Marcello Pacitti in prison in 2018.
But that made Cornelius a target for Glasgow’s Lyons mob.
Our source added: “Cornelius got slashed last year in Glasgow’s Barlinnie jail. That was funded by the Lyons in response to stuff he’d done for Richardson.”

Cornelius was given life for a random knifing in Edinburgh in 2007.
He had ten years added for wounding Pacitti.
In December he got another 16 months for a blade attack on two warders.
Police said: “Last Wednesday, we received a report of an assault at HMP Saughton. Inquiries continue.”
