A new TV show wants to see if Scousers could survive in an apocalyptic world. Survive The City is being made by The Garden Productions, a well-established television production company based in London.

It is best known for making the long-running Channel 4 series 24 Hours in A&E, and 24 Hours in Police Custody, as well as Squid Game: The Challenge for Netflix and Alone UK.

The firm is currently casting for Survive the City, a new survival-based series. It is looking for a cross section of ordinary British people who must survive for 28 days in a city without any of the comforts of the 21st Century.

The series will examine what we would do, when pushed to the edge of existence. Those who are cast will be asked what they would do if civilization as we know it came to an end, we were stripped of light, power, water and heat.

Those taking part will have to work out their priorities when building a new life amongst the rubble of civilisation. The production company says no experience of survival is necessary – just ingenuity, resilience and courage.

The casting call reads: “You’ve watched doomsday scenarios play out in films and TV dramas… Could YOU survive the End of the World? Could you cope in an abandoned urban environment, stripped of modern comforts?

“A new series for a major broadcaster wants to know if you have what it takes to survive the end of civilisation as we know it. If you’re willing to put yourself forward for the ultimate test, apply NOW. No previous ‘survival’ experience necessary.”

Applicants must be aged 18 +. Terms and conditions apply. The closing date for applications is June 1 2025. You can apply now via https://eu.castitreach.com/ag/itvgarden7/survivethecity/welcome.html. Alternatively, you can email survivethecity@thegarden.tv.

In recent years Merseyside has seen hit shows like Peaky Blinders, The Responder and Missing You filmed on its streets, while the city has played a leading role in superhero films The Batman, and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Earlier this month, Water Street in Liverpool city centre street was closed today as film crews shot scenes for new BBC drama The Cage. ECHO photographer Colin Lane captured pictures of BAFTA award-winner Sheridan Smith, who has a leading role in the series, on Water Street.

The show is the brainchild of BAFTA-nominated Scouser Tony Schumacher. Tony wrote The Responder, another BBC drama set in Liverpool.

The Cage will feature Sheridan, renowned for her role in Cilla, playing the role of Leanne. The five-episode series is produced by Element Pictures and will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Set in a high-energy Liverpool casino, the show follows two characters caught up in a dangerous world.

Leanne (Sheridan Smith) and Matty (Michael Socha) both find themselves stealing from the same casino safe, setting off a chain of events that pits them against each other, a local gangster, and the police.

Water Street from Liverpool Town Hall to the junction with The Strand was closed off as well as neighbouring side streets.

BBC crime drama This City Is Ours features real-life locations across the city. It is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer, with Scouse actor James Nelson Joyce as one of the leads.

ITV drama Protection is also streaming now. With the support of the Film Office, filming for the drama took place in Wirral, Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and Halton.
