Cllr John Gray has become increasingly fed up with the “sheets of litter” he sees every time he visits Robertson Park in Renfrew.
Invariably, he says, the litter predominantly consists of empty cans, broken bottles and shards of glass everywhere and even discarded water bottles abandoned by local football teams.
He said: “The condition of Robertson Park in Renfrew – dearly loved by all who live here – is now beyond acceptable.
“We can no longer tolerate the neglect and abuse of this space which ought to be a safe and pleasing place for all of us.”
The local politician has received calls in the last few weeks from residents who are similarly concerned about the issue.
Particularly they have highlighted the mess being left by kids using the skatepark and adults sitting drinking.
Cllr Jamie McGuire arranged a clean-up by council workers only a few weeks ago, but Cllr Gray says that unfortunately the problem has become “relentless”.

“The council must and always will do its bit, but it also requires the goodwill and consideration of everybody who uses it, to keep this park in good condition,” explained the Cllr, who represents Renfrew North and Braehead.
“Those who use the sporting spaces are welcome to do so, sport is encouraged, but it would be of enormous help if the players would please leave the area as they found it.
“Our children and young persons are welcome to continue to play and socialise here, but I would appeal to them, that they must use the bins provided for their litter.
“Bins are placed all over this park, so there is no excuse.”
Cllr Gray also reminded people that the consumption of alcohol in public is forbidden in Renfrewshire Council.
“It is a shame that I have to speak in such a way,” he said.
“Not only do I live nearby, using and enjoying this park myself, but also, as a councillor I represent the many hundreds of people who likewise use and enjoy this park very much.
“Let’s keep it good.”
