Welp, looks like we have another royal feud on our hands—and this time it has nothing to do with Prince Harry.

Multiple sources claim that Prince William and King Charles are not getting along at the moment, largely because of their differing opinions on how the monarchy should be run. And apparently things are so strained that they barely interacted with each other during the royals’ annual summer holiday in Balmoral.

The Daily Beast spoke to one insider who said that William and Charles’ relationship is “tense, difficult, formal, and fraught,” and that “the vast majority of their communication mediated by their private secretaries.”

And a former staffer from Buckingham Palace said the pair had “spent no time at all together privately one-on-one when William and Kate were in Balmoral last week,” with His Majesty mostly hanging eight miles away from the rest of the family in his “private home” while everyone else chilled at the castle (as one does).

The staffer also confirmed rumors that William didn’t want to attend the Pope’s funeral because of his soccer team playing the same day, and that he wouldn’t attend VJ Day commemorations despite his dad wanting him to.

“Both absolutely true,” the anon former courtier said. “To William, continuing to run the monarchy as though it were still an Edwardian institution feels absurd. To Charles, his son’s more casual approach can feel like a lack of respect for duty and tradition.”
