A number of pubs across the city are set to close their doors next week. 1936 Pubco is closing all 16 of its Liverpool venues on Monday, September 8.

This includes the likes of The Bookbinder and The Masonic Arms on Lark Lane as well as The Mayflower Inn on Pilgrim Street and The Monro on Duke Street. However, it is not all bad news, as staff received a message about the closing. Staff were informed the closure would be happening as a “thank you” to them for their hard work over the last 12 months.

1936 Pubco will be taking the opportunity presented by the one-day closure to throw a party for all employees. The party will be at St Peter’s Tavern on Seel Street, where staff can enjoy free food and drinks and celebrate a great summer for the business.

Head of marketing, communications and business development for 1936 Pubco, Emilia Bona, told the ECHO: “Anyone who’s worked in the hospitality industry will know it’s absolute graft.

“Our staff work so hard right across the business, from bartenders to our maintenance team, our chefs, our managers and everything in between.

“We’re really proud to be such a big employer in the city’s hospitality industry with hundreds of staff working in our pubs, bars and restaurants. We wanted to send a message to all our staff to say ’thank you’ for their hard work, which is why we’re closing every venue on Monday to throw them a massive party down at St Peter’s.

“We’ll be putting on a spread, dishing out drinks tokens and inviting everyone who works for us to enjoy a big night out. It’s been a brilliant year for 1936 Pubco that’s seen us open three new pubs.

“We resurrected The Pilgrim in April and opened The Mayflower the same month. In August, we completed our restoration of The Masonic Arms, turning what used to be The Lodge into a good old-fashioned community boozer that we think respects its history on the lane.

“Opening three new pubs in a year doesn’t come easy. Across the industry, we’re seeing six pubs closing every single week, and we’re made up to be bucking that trend by bringing old pubs back into use and breathing new life into some beloved city institutions.

“None of this would be possible without our incredible staff, who put in long hours and hard work to make 1936 Pubco what it is. Our summer party is just a small way of saying thank you to them for everything they do.

“Hopefully our customers won’t mind having to miss out on a pint on Monday – we’ll be back open as usual the following day.”

Businesses will re-open on Tuesday, September 9, as normal.
