A major police presence descended on a Bolton estate after a man was ‘seen with a machete’.

Several police vehicles – including a helicopter – were seen around Silchester Way, in Breightmet, at around 7.30pm on Thursday night.

Greater Manchester Police says it responded to a ‘disturbance’ which left one person with a ‘minor injury’.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

The Manchester Evening News understands the weapon involved was a machete.

Officers are continuing with their enquiries today (Friday).

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 7.30pm last night (September 4), officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Silchester Way, Bolton.

“A man, aged 25, has been arrested on suspicion of possession an offensive weapon. Enquiries are ongoing.

“One person received a minor injury that was not life-threatening or changing.”
