Supermarket giant Tesco have submitted planning applications for a new store in Belfast City Centre at the former site of SS Moore.

As first reported in the Irish News, Tesco has applied for permission to erect signage and alter the shopfront of the former historic sports store on 6-14 Chichester Street.

SS Moore moved locations in 2022 after 75 years on Chichester Street, and Tesco is now looking to renovate the site.

Tesco has applied for “Installation of plant on rear roof; installation of new shopfront and installation of advertisements” at the address to the Belfast City Council.

The application materials estimate that 20 people will attend the site daily.

Tesco intends to install a “new floor mounted two fan CO2 gas cooler” along with “3x Floor Mounted low noise Daikin AZAS 140 AC Units.”

According to the forms submitted, the advertisements will consist of two shop signs, one projecting sign, three window vinyls and two box fascias.

Tesco moved out of a former city centre location in 2 Royal Avenue in recent years, with the site now serving as a community and social space. Tesco also has an Express store on Royal Avenue.
