Emi Martinez has responded to a question about his future having been linked with a move to to Manchester United, reportedly agreeing personal terms with the club before deadline day.

United were linked with the Aston Villa goalkeeper throughout the transfer window and saw a loan bid rejected. Towards the end of the window, Fabrizio Romano reported that United made an approach to Villa for Martinez, having already agreed personal terms with the goalkeeper.

This came amid uncertainty over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir‘s future at the club. Martinez, who was open to leaving Villa earlier in the summer but now remains part of Unai Emery’s squad, is currently away on international duty with Argentina for World Cup qualifiers in South America.

After Argentina’s 3–0 win over Venezuela in Buenos Aires – where winter is just coming to an end – a journalist managed to get a few words from the goalkeeper. Speaking to Fox Sports Argentina, the first question was about the chilly weather, as Martinez had little to do during the match.

“Not as much as in Birmingham!” the goalkeeper laughed when asked about the cold, before being questioned on whether he intended to remain in Birmingham.

“Yes, yes – perfect,” the Argentinian replied. The reporter then asked whether he could visit him in the second city, to which Martínez replied: “Yes, of course, but you’re not missing much.”
