Indiana Jones Order Of Giants DLC Launches To 'Mixed' Feedback In First 24 Hours

It’s now been over 24 hours since the Indiana Jones Order of Giants DLC first launched on Xbox and beyond, and just like in the case of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Bethesda didn’t send any review codes out for this one ahead of time.

We’ve started playing it here at Pure Xbox (look out for our impressions hopefully next Monday), but we’ve only come across one finalised review from an outlet so far – that’s from Game8, which has given it a very impressive 86/100.

Here’s what they said in their conclusion:

“The Order of Giants expands Indy’s world in The Great Circle with care, offering strong storytelling, atmospheric design, and a polished gameplay loop. Yet uneven combat balance, weaker puzzles, and a slightly constrained setting keep it from perfection. What it does well, it does with confidence, and it makes this DLC a worthy addition that proves great expansions don’t need to reinvent the wheel to succeed.”

Nevertheless, the feedback has definitely been mixed so far – and “Mixed” is actually the rating it has on Steam based on the first 50 user reviews on there. In general, it sounds like people are enjoying the actual content of the DLC, but the negative stuff mainly revolves around it being too short for the $20 (or slightly less) asking price.

The few user reviews on the Xbox Store paint a very similar picture to Steam as well.

So, let’s start with a couple of positive user reviews:

Teddy B on Steam: “Fun diversion with some good puzzles. If you’re on a fresh playthrough, this DLC feels more organic for getting into because you can beat the main story in 3-4 hours and it feels like an extension of the Vatican level. It’s not an epilogue to the secret ending like I was hoping for and it’s quite linear, but still a pleasure to 100%.”

hellboy632789 on Steam: “It is more of the same game. I really enjoyed this game and the DLC is just more of that and it is enjoyable. I have played for a couple hours, so I imagine I am almost done at this point. It definitely isn’t going to be very long, but if you thoroughly enjoyed the base game you will enjoy this DLC.”

You get the idea, right? If you liked Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you’re probably going to like The Order of Giants as well. That’s great news for those who just wanted more of the same from this DLC.

However, it does seem like a lot of people – even the players who are praising it – are warning that you’re not getting a lot for your money here.

Again, here are just two of the more negative reviews that we’ve picked out:

Boboscus on Steam: “Way too pricy for what you get, if you didn`t get it from the Premium Edition I would wait for a sale, took me about 3 hours to finish the story and have maybe an hour left for the rest of the collectibles. Most of the DLC takes place in the sewer, so you can say it`s the mandatory sewer level. Twists were good, so was the final fight, but honestly this is overpriced.”

Fuyu on Steam: “It takes 2-3 hours to complete for just the main story and most of the time that is spent in Rome in the sewers which is annoying to navigate and backtrack for remaining collectibles. I also encountered a bug preventing me from finding one of the mysteries and notes, and wasted two hours trying to figure out why I couldn’t get to them. Eventually I was able to get them after relaunching the game several times, but this definitely soured my experience even further. I think the only parts I liked about this DLC are the puzzles and the boss fight at the end which were a bit more challenging than the base game.”

So, yeah – there’s your reason for the “Mixed” reviews. We’re obviously going to need a little longer to see how it fares on the likes of Metacritic and OpenCritic, but it sounds like it’s not going to reach the highs of the base game on there.

Still, don’t forget that if you bought any kind of “Premium” version of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you can play this new DLC at no extra charge, and Game Pass members also get a slight discount on the standalone version if you’re keen on checking it out this weekend. You might even be able to blast through it later tonight!
