Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie says he was “mightily surprised” that Sheffield United sanctioned Jack Robinson’s departure to Birmingham City but insisted it was a great deal for Blues.

Robinson signed for Blues on deadline day and arrives bringing a wealth of experience having been a key performer as the Blades reached the play-off final in the Championship last term.

The centre-back left Bramall Lane at a time when United have endured a shocking start to the season and his move to the West Midlands has done little to ease concerns about the club’s direction of travel under Ruben Selles.

But their loss has been Birmingham’s gain according to Hendrie who says they have got the better end of the deal.

“I’m mightily surprised, to be honest, particularly with the situation they’re in this season,” Hendrie told Football League World.

“A poor start from them, defensively looked I think vulnerable from day duck, really, and him being experienced I think this is an absolutely massive signing for Blues, I really do.

“I think they’ve got such a big squad of players and not just players that are making up numbers.

“I think Jack Robinson brings real experience, it’s a very good signing for them.

“Big coup for Blues.”
