Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor. Onana’s future has been in doubt since the end of last season following a difficult campaign.
In the summer, a new goalkeeper was linked with a move to Old Trafford while Onana had interest from AS Monaco. A move away never materialised for the Cameroon international but United did sign a new number one.
Senne Lammens, 23, completed a £18.2million move from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day. It is yet to be known if the Belgium international will come in as Ruben Amorim’s number one.
Onana has lost his place in United’s squad to Altay Bayindir this season, though the Turkey international has failed to cover himself in glory. The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this week that United were not anticipating any exits on deadline day from their goalkeeping department.
However, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Trabzonspor have reached a verbal agreement with United to sign Onana on loan. The window in Turkey is open until next Friday (September 12) meaning deals are still being worked on.
The report adds that an agreement is in place between the two clubs and the temporary move is now down to Onana. The 29-year-old has only played once for United this season, in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
The Manchester Evening News reported after the cup upset that Onana’s future at the club was in serious doubt even if he stayed at the club past this summer.
