BBC’ broadcaster Jsky will be back on-air following a successful fifth year performing at Manchester Pride.
The Bury-based singer-songwriter first rose to fame back in 2015 during his appearance on First Dates, and later found himself on Channel 4’s Naked Beach.
Following a stint as the showbiz correspondent for BBC Radio Manchester’s breakfast show with Chelsea Norris, he landed his own BBC radio show back in 2022.
Since then, he’s been the face of many Pride events, but previously opened up about not feeling welcomed in the Manchester gay scene.
He said: “I’d go to clubs in Manchester in the village and I wouldn’t be able to get in. They’d say, “you need to be a member”, and then the people that weren’t the same skin tone as me, shall we say, would be able to walk in and I’d be left on the outside.
“When I first started going out on the Manchester scene, I made a name for myself with the z-list clubs on the straight scene because they were the places that actually accepted me the most. I built up my following that way.”
However, things have changed for the better for the star as he headlined the new Mardi Gras stage at Mayfield Depot on Saturday 23rd August, debuting material from his upcoming music project Karanciaga.

Performing his dancehall-infused single Put It Pon Dem to a packed crowd, Jsky joined a lineup that included Nelly Furtado, Olly Alexander, and Leigh-Anne. His fifth consecutive Manchester Pride performance was hailed as a celebration of self-expression, heritage, and unapologetic empowerment.
Jsky shared: “To be invited back to perform at Manchester Pride for the fifth year in a row honestly means so much to me.
“I never saw someone like me growing up in a space like this, so to be here again, this time on the new Mardi Gras stage at Mayfield Depot, just feels incredible.”
He’ll be back on air this September, returning to host the flagship BBC Introducing show on September 11, 13, 18, and 20 following overwhelming public demand.
Plus, Jsky will co-host the BBC Make A Difference Awards on September 12, joining BBC Breakfast’s Joe McGrath to honour everyday heroes across the UK.
The ceremony, part of the BBC’s nationwide initiative to spotlight community changemakers, will see Jsky present awards to individuals whose impact has transformed lives and uplifted local spirit.
