A person was rescued after falling down an embankment. Emergency services were called to Rice Lane in Walton at around 9.10pm on Saturday, September 6.

It followed a report a person had fallen around 30 metres down an embankment. When the ECHO arrived at the scene at around 9.45pm, there were three incident response units, two ambulance cars, an ambulance, two fire engines, an advance paramedic and multiple police cars at the scene.

Dozens of search and rescue officers could also be seen searching in a gap near to the Rice Lane/Breeze Hill flyover. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that paramedics assessed the casualty, who was conscious and breathing, while an extrication plan was formulated by crews.

Metal fencing was removed to enable crews to access the area, and the person was secured in a stretcher by NWAS. The casualty was then recovered by crews using a RAG system.

The casualty was then handed over to NWAS to be conveyed to hospital. A force incident manager from Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO the incident was an “ongoing search”.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended an incident on Rice Lane, Walton, this evening.

“Crews were alerted at 9.10pm and on scene at 9.17pm. One fire engine and the search and rescue team attended alongside Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

“This was a rescue from depth involving a casualty that had fallen approximately 30 metres down an embankment.

“Paramedics from NWAS assessed the casualty, who was conscious and breathing, while an extrication plan was formulated by crews.

“Metal fencing was removed to enable crews to access the area, and the casualty was secured in a stretcher by NWAS. The casualty was then recovered by crews using a RAG system.

“The casualty was then handed over to NWAS to be conveyed to hospital. Fire crews left the scene at 10.48pm.”
