The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are gearing up for a trip to Japan later this month, which unfortunately clashes with President Donald Trump‘s historic second state visit to the UK.
The royal couple will be in Japan from September 18 to 22, making them noticeably absent from all events related to President Trump’s visit, scheduled for September 17 to 19.
Their journey to Japan is a celebration of the robust bilateral relationship between the UK and Japan, reports Daily Express UK.

The Duke, 61, and Duchess, 60, have a packed itinerary in Osaka and Tokyo, focusing on areas of mutual interest such as youth opportunity, sustainability and innovation, education for the next generation, and women in leadership roles.
They’ll also make a stop at the UK and Japanese Pavilions at EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Kansai.

As the biggest international event in Japan this decade, the goal is to unite people and innovations from across the globe to tackle worldwide issues.
Before jetting off to Japan, Edward has another trip lined up to Papua New Guinea from September 14th to 17th, meaning he’ll need to head straight to Japan from there.

This solo trip, without Sophie by his side, is to partake in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence from Australia.
Edward’s schedule includes a dawn flag-raising ceremony and a State Dinner to commemorate the occasion.

During his visit, Edward will present new Regimental Colours to the First Royal Pacific Islands Regiment on behalf of the King and confer 50th Independence Anniversary King’s Medals.
These medals will be awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Papua New Guinea.
