Novak Djokovic has fallen short of a return to Grand Slam success once more, losing his US Open semifinal to Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz loved overcoming Djokovic in their semifinal in New York, having defeated the Serbian 6-4, 7-6(7-4), 6-2.
He’s now reached his second US Open final and seventh career Grand Slam final, where he faces a reunion with Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic meanwhile finishes his 2025 Grand Slam season in remarkable fashion, having reached all four semifinals.
Chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title, the Serbian retired hurt at that stage of the Australian Open against Alexander Zverev.

The legendary figure then lost his French Open and Wimbledon semifinals to Sinner, with Alcaraz now continuing that trend in New York.
Djokovic is only the second player in the Open Era to experience such a scenario, with Conchita Martinez losing in all four Grand Slam semifinals in 1995.

Fortunately, the Spaniard was able to clinch Grand Slam success the year before, winning the 1994 Wimbledon title.
She defeated legendary figure Martina Navratilova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, and ended her fantastic career with 33 WTA titles and a career-high ranking of two.

Since retiring, Martinez has turned her hand to coaching, with the 53-year-old currently working with Mirra Andreeva, having previously coached Garbine Muguruza and Karolina Pliskova.
Martinez thinks Andreeva can win Wimbledon, although her best Grand Slam run so far involved reaching the French Open semifinals in 2024.

The Russian is, however, only 18 years old, and already boasts three WTA titles and currently occupies a career-high ranking of five.
And like her coach, Andreeva is also a very accomplished doubles player, winning twice on the WTA Tour so far.
Martinez clinched 13 doubles titles, but will very likely look back most fondly on that stunning Wimbledon success over 18-time Grand Slam champion Navratilova.
The pair are enjoying a hugely successful partnership, and look certain to continue their exciting work long into the future.
World number five Andreeva will, however, be disappointed with her latest efforts, having fallen in the third round of the US Open.
But she’s had a season to be extremely proud of, winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles at Indian Wells and Dubai.
