Discover original paintings and reproductions depicting the city of Glasgow, created by Glaswegian artist Stephen Murray. Matthew Arthur Williams is a Glasgow-based artist who has become known for visual arts practice that explores themes of race, queerness, memory and history. This exhibition features a selection of entirely new colour and black and white self-portraits and landscapes. Williams has used the methodical, slower-paced process of analogue photography using a darkroom to bring these pictures to life.

Tessa Lynch’s solo exhibition, Arena, features both new and repositioned artworks. For this showcase, Lynch presents three bodies of work – Wipe Clean: The Scots Magazine which was put together in 2023; Play Panels, featuring a new series of chalk drawings, and Through, including sculptural works, were both created this year.

Greetings from Glasgow is a new pop-up exhibition featuring 100 small works on plywood postcards, creating a daily diary of views around Glasgow. Artist Liz Reid celebrates all aspects of city life from iconic sights like the Barrowland Ballroom to views of graffiti, roadworks under the M8 and deserted city lanes. There’s also a new series of monoprints on show alongside a new collection of drawings and paintings inspired by the view from the top deck of the no.18 bus.

Public Diners

This exhibition uncovers the forgotten history of state-supported restaurants in the UK, and current international examples of public dining. During the Second World War and into the 1960s, the UK had a national network of over 2000 public diners. Created by Nourish Scotland and 60 community researchers, this exhibition asks the question if public diners could make a comeback.

Unmasked: Exploring Scottish Portraiture

This exhibition examines the portraiture genre in depth, with a selection of highlights from the City Art Centre’s permanent collection. Featuring examples of painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and photography. The exhibition spans almost 400 years of artistic production from historic portraits by George Jameson to contemporary works by Sekai Machache. Unmasked also shares new research findings from the collection and reveals several recent acquisitions, on display for the first time.
