A 39-year-old man charged with the murder of Chrissy Burns (40) in Armagh is due in court on Monday.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team confirmed on Sunday the suspect had been charged.

He is due before Newry Magistrates’ Court, with all charges to be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Mr Burns was originally from Warrenpoint and was found dead at an address in the Cusher Green area of Mountnorris on Thursday.

Emergency services had attended but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene with serious head and facial injuries.

His death is now the 10th murder in Northern Ireland within 10 weeks.

Speaking to the Irish News on Friday, local councillor Keith Ratcliffe said the violent death had caused shock among in the rural area.

“It’s a very close community, a quiet rural village, which never has any incidents like this. This is very rare,” he said.

“My condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends at this time, it is a terrible tragedy.”
