Tatyana Vassilyeva, 47, will take part in the 11.3-mile Big Stroll to raise funds for St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh.

She will be wearing a kilt in the the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Tartan as she makes her debut at the annual event next Sunday (September 14).

Tatyana, who is originally from Kazakhstan, has made Musselburgh her home and lives in the Pinkie Mains estate, off Pinkie Road.

She said: “I decided to do the Kiltwalk as I am passionate about helping local charities and the Kiltwalk seemed a good way of raising funds.”

She works for Kinloch Anderson, based in Leith, and has been making handmade kilts for more than five years.

She said: “I am looking forward to the Kiltwalk and, in preparation, I have been training at night after work for over six months by walking on average 13,000 steps five or six times a week.”

Tatyana added: “I chose St Columba’s Hospice as I believe they do tremendous work with the palliative care and end-of-life care that they provide.”

The tartan she will be wearing was chosen and approved by the Queen in 2022.

As explained by the Scottish Register of Tartans, there are seven colours in this tartan, representing the seven decades of the Queen’s reign.

The colours used include platinum grey in recognition of the jubilee; green to reflect the King George VI (Green Stewart) tartan; red, white and blue for the colours of the United Kingdom flag; and gold to represent the Crown.

The sett (pattern) of the tartan has been developed from the King George VI (Green Stewart) tartan, which was designed by Kinloch Anderson. It also reflects the long-standing historical connection of the Royal Family with the Stewart tartans, particularly the Royal Stewart.

Kiltwalk is Scotland’s largest mass participation walking event, with more than 178,000 people taking part since 2016.
