The Met Office has updated its yellow weather warning, with Birmingham now caught under the alert area.

This morning, the West Midlands, Wales, southwest England and central southern England had all been issued a yellow weather alert by the authority, but this second warning has expanded the locations impacted.

Posting an update on social media, the Met Office confirmed the new yellow alert was in place from 12pm until 4pm today (Sunday, September 7).

They wrote: “Yellow weather warning issued.

“Thunderstorms across parts of the West Midlands, Wales, southwest England and central southern England.”

On the Met Office website, the authority provides further detail over what local residents can expect today, writing: “A band of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move north across the area giving one to hours of intense rain before clearing northwards.

“Some places could receive 30-40mm of rain in this time, along with a risk of frequent lightning and hail.”

They warn: “Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures,” and that there “is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
