PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — It’s Sunday afternoon at the 50th Walker Cup.

The first three sessions have come and gone, and with it the United States leads Great Britain & Ireland 8½-7½ in the biennial competition between some of the best amateurs in the world. The two teams split Sunday Foursomes, each winning two matches, helping the U.S. maintain its one-point advantage heading into the 10 afternoon singles matches. The USA needs only 4.5 points to retain the Walker Cup, which would be its fifth straight win.

Cypress Point is ranked No. 1 on Golfweek’s Best list of Classic Courses in the U.S., and Sunday it will once again hosts some of the best amateurs in the world at an incredible venue.

Another one for the red, white and blue. Tommy Morrison closes his match out with a 3-and-2 win against Niall Shiels Donegan.

The kid is good.

All 10 matches are on the course, and the U.S. had the lead in eight of them. Again, it’s early, but the Americans are looking to finish strong and are off to an incredible start early.

The Americans are off to a hot start in singles. Each of the first four matches are leaning in favor of the U.S. thus far with 1-up leads in them all. It’s early, but a good start.

World No. 1 Jackson Koivun delivers, making a par putt to give the U.S. its second point.

No words. Just watch.

The U.S. Amateur champion can’t stop making long putts. He does it again on 15 to ensure the USA gets a half point in the third match.

Luke Poulter and Charlie Forster were 4 down with eight to play. Now they’re 1 down on the 15th tee. In the match behind, Stuart Grehan and Eliot Baker were also 4 down but now are 2 down on 14.

Early on, it was a red wave on the leaderboard, but GB&I leads in two of the four with the U.S. at least three up in the other two. In the first match out, Jackson Koivun and Tommy Morrison are trying to turn the tide.

Just a simply incredible shot you have to see.

It has been a dominant start for Preston Stout and Ethan Fang, teammates at Oklahoma State. They’re 3 up thru 5 against Luke Poulter and Charlie Forster with three birdies so far.

The U.S. got off to a slow start Saturday, something captain Nathan Smith knew had to be corrected. In Saturday Singles, it was. And on Sunday, the USA is 1 up after the first hole thanks to a clutch par putt from Tommy Morrison, who at 6-foot-9 is believed to be the tallest Walker Cup competitor ever.
