Already in the points jersey since stage 4 of the Vuelta a España, Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) took his first win of this year’s race on Sunday’s stage 15.

The 29-year-old Dane proved fastest – by far – in a nine-rider group of breakaway riders that battled for the stage in Monforte de Lemos. Orluis Aular (Movistar) settled for a distant second with Marco Frigo (Israel-Premier Tech) in third on the day.

The peloton arrived more than 13 minutes down on the stage winner, with race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and the other top GC contenders finishing safely in the bunch.
