The British Science Festival arrives in Liverpool this week. Between September 10 and 14, more than 100 free events are set to take place as Europe’s longest-running science festivals arrives in the city. The festival, which is organised by the British Science Association, University of Liverpool, and Liverpool John Moores University, connects people with researchers and scientists through free events such as exhibitions, talks and workshops.
Events are scheduled to take place across the city including both university campuses, Kazimier Garden, LEAF, Liverpool ONE and more.
The full festival programme and information on how to book can be found on the festival’s website. Although all of the events are free, some will require advance booking.
With such a huge programme, the British Science Festival has rounded-up some of its highlights. Take a look below.
Thought-provoking talks by academics, inventors and writers
Social media influencer and bionic arm ambassador Tilley Lockey will give a talk on how technology can be both fashionable and make for a more accessible, inclusive future; while Giles Yeo investigates the pros and cons of increasingly popular weight loss jabs.

Find out about the impact of junk food brands advertising to kids on gaming platforms, meet Liverpool and Everton sports scientists working with football’s big names, and discover what hearing aids could do in future.
There are dozens more talks on the bill from senior scientists on topics such as crime and cannabis.
Visit an art installation
GEIST by This is Loop will run from 10am until 10pm on September 10 to 14 at Liverpool ONE. The large-scale art installation activates using bodies and movement.

Photography exhibition Fungal Galaxies will take visitors on a journey inside plants, looking at the microorganisms that live inside them. The exhibition can be found on College Lane in Liverpool ONE and will run all week.
Performances across the city
Rapper Jon Chase (AKA Oort Kuiper) will perform live from Church Street on Friday, September 12 at 12pm. Jon will perform series of 20 minute raps throughout the afternoon.

Dance company Movema will perform beneath an art installation at Liverpool Catherdral on Saturday, September 13 at 4.30pm.
At The Black-E, Liverpool-based LGBTQIA+ collective Young Homotopia will explore mental health in the queer community through performance.
British Science Festival X Liverpool Biennale
The festival has partnered with the Liverpool Biennale to bring its Geophonic: A rock and walk performance. The immersive performance takes visitors on an atmospheric sound walk, bringing geology, sci-fi and rave culture together. More information on how to book can be found on the festival’s website.
Meet the scientists
Scientists from Liverpool and across the UK will be on hand to discuss technologies and developments changuing lives. This includes space scientists at LJMU, and scientists behind Robot FC with Everton in the Community.
