Prince Harry is in the UK right now, and it’s being said he will meet with his father, King Charles, at some point this week, but when it comes to his sister-in-law, Princess Kate, it depends on her husband, Prince William.
Just yesterday, Kate made an unexpected appearance with William, with commentators suggesting they made a joint appearance to avoid Harry, which sounds rather extreme and why we checked in with Pauline Maclaran, royal author and Professor at Royal Holloway, to ask her thoughts on the matter.
Speaking to Daily Express US, Maclaran said since the brothers are estranged, Kate would not meet with Harry without her husband’s approval.
Maclaran said: “It’s pretty well known that William is estranged from his brother so I doubt if she would meet Harry without William’s approval.”
In terms of whether or not Kate made sure she was out of the house when Harry arrived to the UK, Maclaran believes that to be a bit of a stretch. She explained: “I think this is just speculation in the absence of much other information about whether Harry will meet his father or any other family members.”
Harry is in the U.K. for four days, arriving just yesterday, and the first thing he did was go to visit Queen Elizabeth II’s burial site.
It seemed like Harry went straight from the airport to St. James’s Chapel where the late Queen, Harry’s grandmother, was laid to rest. Yesterday marked the three-year anniversary of the Queen’s death, with Harry traveling to St. James’s to pay his respects.
From the outside looking in, it appears that Harry’s intent in visiting his grandmother’s burial site was genuine, but at the same time, it seemed worth checking in with Maclaran, that he wasn’t doing this to get his father’s attention, in which Maclaran agrees, that Harry’s intentions were pure.

The royal author said: “I’m sure he did genuinely want to visit his grandmother and mark the 3rd anniversary of her death, but the visit also reminds us of his royal status and keeps him in the public eye as well as in front of members of his family.”
She added: “It will certainly remind the King that Harry is here – although I doubt if he’ll have forgotten!”
