A new study shows crime has dropped by 169 per cent in towns and cities across England, Scotland, and Wales compared to last year.

CCTV operator training provider Get Licensed has ranked major UK city and town centres based on crime levels, year-on-year reductions, and reoffending rates.

In their findings, they discovered that Sutton has the safest town centre in the country, and said “Sutton is the safest place in Britain”.

The borough scored 47.06 out of 100 on the Safety Index, the highest of all areas analysed.

It recorded an annual crime rate of 61 incidents per 1,000 people, one of the lowest in the country.

Crime has fallen by 2.75 per cent year-on-year, showing a downward trend.

The crime severity score is 11.9, with most crimes tending to be robberies or thefts, with little to no reports of weapons possession.

Sutton’s reoffending rate is 15.74 per cent, lower than most other boroughs in the study.

There are 1.32 reports of anti-social behaviour per 1,000 people each month, again below many other areas.

The borough is also covered by 230 public CCTV cameras per 100,000 people.

Sutton was awarded a safety score of 8.09 out of 10, the best in the country.

In Get Licensed’s findings, they also noted two other south London boroughs in their top 10 left: Kingston and Richmond.

Kingston upon Thames ranked third with a crime rate of 67.1 per 1,000 people, a 9.69 per cent fall in crime, and a safety score of 7.81 out of 10.

Richmond upon Thames came fifth with a crime rate of 61.7, a slight 0.91 per cent rise in crime, and a safety score of 7.55.

Earlier this year, Cheam in Sutton was named one of the safest places to live in London by property site Area 360.

Sutton was also named the best place to live and retire at the start of 2025.
