A British tourist in Hungary has been arrested on suspicion of killing his friend at a holiday apartment in Budapest and trying to drag the body through the hallway.
Police responded to a report that a British man had been stabbed in Erzsébetváros, the party district of the Hungarian capital, at 4:13 a.m. yesterday morning.
They tried to help the injured 28-year-old holidaymaker but were unable to save his life, they said in a statement.
A 34-year-old man – understood to have been a friend – was questioned and admitted to killing the victim before being arrested and taken into custody, police said.
The Budapest Police Headquarters’ Life Protection Department has since launched an investigation on suspicion of murder.
The two British men were said to have gone out partying before returning to the apartment in the city’s party district, according to the Hungarian Bors outlet.
‘Around 3 a.m. we heard a fight, then a fight, then some smashing and smashing. Then it was suddenly quiet,’ a witness said.
Authorities said the two men had rented the apartment to party while visiting Budapest. An argument broke out which escalated to violence.

Local media reported that the apartment blocks tend to attract tourists, rather than housing residents.
Police officers attending the scene could be seen on a balcony holding up a white tarpaulin in front of the victim.
Police investigators combed through rubbish looking for the knife used in the stabbing.
Residents reported that the suspect was dragging the victim’s body down the corridor when officers arrived.
By that time, a pool of blood had already formed outside the door.
