The Leeds Local Plan is a legal framework that will set out the council’s vision and strategy for sustainable growth up to 2042. The plan guides how land is used and developed across the district and influences planning decisions to ensure any developments meet the needs of the community and the environment.

By having this long-term plan, the council says it can better manage where new homes, businesses, and services are built and ensure the right development happens in the right places.

The consultation, which will provide vital feedback in shaping the future of Leeds, opened on July 7 and closes on Monday, September 15.

Clive Woods, Chair, Aireborough Civic Society said: “Much of the Local Plan objectives are to be welcomed. However, the consultation is also about sites in Aireborough for future development, including those saved at the Judicial Review in London a few years ago.

“Since then nothing has changed, except that congestion gets worse, not helped by over 500 new homes in Burley-in-Wharfedale and many just over the border in Eccleshill, Bradford (and more being constructed in Esholt).

“Yet, again, Aireborough’s deliberately planned (in past strategic plans) tight Green Belt, that stops urban sprawl, maintains local character and stops countryside encroachment is under threat, whilst future plans for community infrastructure, traffic, and flooding are non-existent.

“The full consultation is lengthy with 14 specific sections on different planning topics, each containing sub-sections with options for you to choose. In addition, there are links to current plans and the evidence base that LCC’s have use for their recommended options. These are reasonably self explanatory.

“However, if your main interest is the site allocations for Aireborough, which now falls under the Leeds Outer North West area, then scroll down the page to the site proposals and call for sites section.”

Some of the sites put forward for assessment by landowners and developers are: Haw Lane, Yeadon; Milners Road, Yeadon; Victoria Avenue, Yeadon; Ings Lane, Guiseley; Birks Farm, Ings Lane Guiseley; White Cross, Guiseley; Hollins Hill, Guiseley; three sites on Coach Road, Guiseley; two sites at Shaw Lane, Guiseley; Wills Gill, Guiseley; Chapel Croft, Menston; Nether Yeadon; land around Leeds Bradford Airport and  land around Rawdon Billing and New Road Side Rawdon.
