Nationwide has confirmed when a major app update will go live for all six million customers who use it. A recent app update added dark mode to the app, meaning if your phone has dark mode turned on, the colour scheme on the app will change to reflect this.

But some customers have had issues using the new feature. One customer said when they had dark mode on, the app screen was too dark for them to see.

Nationwide told the customer that a new feature would soon be added in the banking app menu, allowing you to toggle dark mode on and off for the app, independently of your device setting. A spokesperson said: “Customers will be able to toggle on and off dark mode in the next few weeks.

“Until then, we would recommend switching between light and dark mode on their mobile phone settings.”

Another customer contacted Nationwide over social media to say they disliked the dark blue background used in the dark mode for the Nationwide app.

They asked why there was no option to change dark mode on and off within the app.

Nationwide said in response that “this feature is being worked on”. On its website, Nationwide says you can use its app to bank safely and securely.

It says: “Log in with your fingerprint, face recognition or passnumber if your device allows. Confirm your identity with facial recognition. No more card reader to make payments in the app.

“Set up facial recognition to confirm your identity and make payments easier. Need to confirm your ID? If you’re shopping online, simply do it through our app.

“Logging you out automatically in case you forget or leave your mobile or tablet somewhere.”

The building society went on and added: “Log into the internet bank and make payments without a card reader.”
