Ukraine has launched its first railway line built to the European standard gauge, linking Uzhhorod and Chop on the country’s western border. The 22 km stretch, funded equally by the EU and the European Investment Bank, marks ‘a historic step’ in Ukraine’s integration with the European rail network while war continues to weigh on the country’s transport system.
