Her Royal Highness is coming to the county in a visit Kensington Palace says will “celebrate the unique skill, creativity and craftsmanship of British textile manufacturers” and the “joy found in working in the creative industries”.

Marina Mill, which is based on the Cuxton Industrial Estate, specialises in designing and hand-printing furnishing fabrics.

It was originally set up from a basement flat in Fulham in 1967, but later relocated to Medway in the early 1990s.

The company operates with a small team of nine employees who produce fabrics using the traditional silk-screen method, and are all highly skilled in hand-printing, colour mixing and screen-making.

Later today, Princess Kate will spend time with design director Tandine Rawkins, observing the creative processes before mucking in herself.

Kate will get the chance to take part in screen-printing a design on fabric by pushing coloured dyes through an engraved silk-screen using a squeegee.

When the Princess last visited the county , two years ago, she paid a visit to the Orchards Centre, in Sittingbourne, where she joined a sensory development class with a group of children with a range of needs and conditions.

The princess and her husband have a run of official duties booked in this week, with William visiting a youth centre in Lambeth and a new mental health hub in Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Harry, who is estranged from William, has been busying himself with a string of charity appearances, including the WellChild Awards in London on Monday where he met Grace Tutt, from New Ash Green, who was seriously injured in a bus crash in Meopham last year.

Kate’s official engagement comes a year after she announced she was cancer-free in September 2024, six months after her diagnosis was made public.

King Charles, whose own cancer diagnosis was revealed just a month before, came to the county in July on his first official visit to Kent since ascending the throne.

He was greeted with huge crowds in Walmer and Deal, where he met with lifeboat crews, community champions and representatives of the ancient Cinque Ports.
