KEVIN’S PRIDE has made a promising start over hurdles for John McConnell, finishing runner-up for the third time in as many outings when beaten by a progressive type at Limerick, so he is taken to go one better this time around.

He can see off the challenge of Mary Stanford, who was well clear of the rest when runner-up on her hurdling debut at Hexham, with Frisby also considered after doing too much too soon over a longer trip last time.

Plenty to consider in this novice handicap chase, but the improving DENEMETHY could be the answer for Fergal O’Brien, having split a pair of subsequent winners when just edged out by Homme d’Un Soir at Market Rasen last time.

Lucinda Russell holds a strong hand with Bois Guillbert, a winner at Newcastle in February, and Rattling Road, narrowly beaten at the same track last time, while Next Left is back on a tempting mark for the Skeltons.

A cracking listed contest with MISTER MEGGIT the suggestion, having shaped particularly well when heavily backed to the land the Sefton at Aintree for Jonjo & A. J. O’Neill three weeks ago, where he shaped best in fourth after a bad mistake late on.

Horaces Pearl was a bit disappointing when surrendering his unbeaten record in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at the same meeting. But he may well get back on track, with Roaring Conquest another to consider.

Willie Mullins’ FUN FUN FUN was an impressive winner of a Grade 3 novice at Limerick last month when making all to beat male rivals and she should prove hard to beat in this listed mares’ chase with only a 2 lb penalty.

Coco Mademoiselle has finished runner-up in two of her four starts over fences and was running a big race when stumbling and unseating three out at Cheltenham last week and may emerge as the biggest threat.

VOCITO comfortably saw off next-time-out winner Koenigsstern back over fences at Plumpton in November and is the one to beat for Olly Murphy and champion jockey-elect Sean Bowen if resuming after a break in similar form.

Etalon’s recent Ayr fourth behind The Other Mozzie in a better race at the Scottish Grand National meeting wasn’t without promise following another breathing operation and he’s second choice for Dan Skelton.

LITTLE MISS DANTE has gone well fresh before and might be able to provide Olly Murphy with a second successive win in this race. She’s been off since Boxing Day and has been dropped a couple of pounds since that run.

Hay Meadow and Parisian Fashion are unexposed handicap newcomers who arrive on the back of novice/maiden wins. John McConnell’s good Perth record also earns Jumping Susie a place on the shortlist.

HENRYSBROTHERJACK did well to win decisively at Bangor in February, considering the steady gallop and a 6 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the follow-up in this amateur’s contest on what could be a very good day for Olly Murphy.

Maggies Boy’s latest effort is easily excused after getting badly hampered and he remains with potential after a good second at Sedgefield the time before, with Wee Alki and Bollin Neil others in the mix.

Olly Murphy and rider James King can land the second division of the amateur handicap as well with HAPPY INDEX, who ended 2024 in excellent heart and could well be up to adding to her tally if picking up where she left off. She was a course winner here in September before following up at Market Rasen.

Follow Charlie confirmed his return to form when third at Carlisle time and heads the dangers, along with Billable Grant at the foot of the weights.
